Traveller
Traveller - this piece is inspired by my husband Zac, whose job takes him around our lands. It is representative of travelling, taking different journeys, and always staying connected.
The blue circles that are connected by a waved line represent a journey taken from one place to another. The five independent circles represents different tribes. The green dots show the abundant bushland and animal tracks connecting each journey.
Traveller is an evocative exploration of movement, connection, and the rhythm of life. Inspired by My husband’s work, which requires him to travel across our lands, the piece is not only a visual journey but also a heartfelt reflection of the concept of travel and how each journey, no matter how far or wide, is interconnected with the past, present, and future.
The blue circles, flowing and connected by a waved line, symbolise the path taken through different landscapes and experiences. The fluidity of the line hints at the unpredictable nature of travel—often winding, sometimes direct, but always leading somewhere new. These circles serve as both markers of destination and stages in the journey, representing the spaces and moments one moves through in life. The blue itself, calm yet deep, suggests that no matter where your travels take you, there is always a sense of purpose, a continuity that binds each step to the next.
The five independent circles represent the different tribes, communities, and people encountered along the journey. Each tribe is distinct in its own way, yet they are united through the journey that weaves them all together. These circles are not connected by the waved line, emphasising their individuality, but their presence within the larger framework underscores the shared human experience. They symbolise the different cultures, stories, and relationships one encounters along the way—the way in which one’s travels are never solely about the individual but about understanding and engaging with the world and others in it.
The green dots, scattered throughout the composition, represent the lush and abundant bushland that forms the lifeblood of the land. These dots are not randomly placed but appear to follow pathways—animal tracks or footpaths—suggesting that the natural world itself is a vital, living map that ties together all the journeys. The green, earthy and grounding, contrast beautifully with the coolness of the blue, reminding us that while the paths we take might lead us to new places, they are always rooted in the land that sustains us. The bushland, abundant with life and energy, offers not just a backdrop for the journey, but also an essential connection between the travellers and the environment.
Together, these elements—blue, green, circles, and lines—speak to the cyclical nature of travel and the unbroken bond between movement and the land, the individual and the community. In Traveller, you capture the essence of a journey that is never just about the physical path, but about the people, the land, and the connections that sustain us, no matter where we go.
